Small Apartment Living: Playroom

28 Sep 2017

Over the course of a couple of months, the play space has been transformed several times. As our child grows, the play space changes.

When we first moved to this apartment, our child was around 4 months. We placed a carpet under the Baby Care mat, had a baby play gym mat (and tummy time pillow that came with it), breast feeding pillow and a Pottery Barn basket (with liner) filled with baby toys. Because this play area is right near the entryway and I did not want people walking over it, we placed two leather office chairs between the entryway area and the mat. It also was my feeding chair. Once he outgrew the office chair (it had arms so it wasn't the comfiest for breastfeeding but that's all we had), we placed a bookshelf on its side so it was low to the ground and perfect height for learning to stand assisted.

Right around 11 months, my mom came to spend time with us for a week when my hubs and I had work on the same day and time. We typically baton touched when we had work but this particular week, we couldn't. She bought him a babycare fence saying she'd feel more comfortable watching him if she knew he was safe inside a particular area. We kept the set up after she left and this is what it looked like for about 3 months. We moved the books and the "bookcase" into the bedroom along with a small basket of soft toys.

After he was a year old and had been walking on his own for 5 months, we purchased an IKEA Billy bookcase which we placed in the corner of the room. We placed a carpet underneath it because the floor was uneven and needed it to stay level. We placed the Baby Care mat on top of it and used the first 3 shelves for toys. You can see where the Baby Care mat touches the Cream Haus mat. I've also added a photo of the other side of the room here as well.

Here's a list of some products we have in the room. They're not linked in case the links for these websites change over time.
IKEA Billy Bookcase
IKEA Trones shoe rack (we received this for free from a friend who was moving)
Baby Care Gym Mat (Country Town Blue, Large)
Baby Care Funzone Play Pen (Skyblue)
Pottery Barn Sabrina Baskets with Liner (liners are sold separately from baskets)

For more info on the Cream Haus mat and Nugget that's pictured, you can read more here.
